Commissioned by the American Federation Pueri Cantores to showcase diversity within the Spanish-language choral repertoire, this advanced choral piece written for SATB voices and piano accompaniment is a setting of Philippians chapter 2, in which Saint Paul exalts Christ as the “name above all names” for having taken on human form to die on the cross._x000D_

The piece is in three sections, mirroring the three-part form of the scripture passage: a gentle, stoic homophonic opening in C major; a polyphonic, somber middle section in A minor at the words “even death on a cross,” and an exuberant section in A major climaxing in the final statement that “Christ Jesus is the Lord!” For choirs looking for a musical challenge and an opportunity to showcase the choral arts using scriptural texts in Spanish, this masterful work makes for a tremendous concert piece, prelude or liturgical anthem._x000D_
