Richard Leach’s text relates a conversation between three birds about the birth of Jesus, offering a delightful challenge to singers to vary tone colors to characterize the birds. The melody uses an old Spanish dance form that mixes ¾ and 6/8 giving a rhythmic feel to the piece.
