I Cry to Thee

Accompaniment - ["Reduction"]

Based on Psalm 142, “I Cry to Thee” is the psalmist’s lament for the absence of care or concern from companions; in the overwhelming darkness, the psalmist cries out to God. The melody ascends and descends, depicting the absence of help from others compared to the upward focus on God, who hears. The repetition of the rising and falling pattern implies the repeated lifecycle of deliverance, prayer, and repentance. A short, accessible piece that is beautiful, solemn and prayerful.
