Festival Canticle Triptych
Richard Hillert, James Biery
- SKU: G-11534
Accompaniment - ["Organ"]
This three-movement organ work is based on “This Is the Feast” by Richard Hillert (1923– 2010). Each movement is composed in the style of a different composer. The first movement is modeled on the music of Franz Joseph Haydn (1732–1809). The structure is a classical sonata form, and the piece should be played in a late Baroque/Classical style. The music of Spanish composer and pianist Federico Mompou (1893–1987) inspired the reflective middle movement. The final “carillon” movement is written in the style of French organist and composer Louis Vierne (1870–1937), organist at Notre-Dame de Paris from 1900 until his death. The first seven notes of Hillert’s melody form the bell-like motive that is heard throughout the piece.
