Little David, Play on Yo' Harp

Accompaniment - ["Reduction"]

An energetic SSAATTB a cappella piece, this arrangement of the Negro Spiritual “Little David, Play on Yo’ Harp” masterfully combines elements of counterpoint, modulations and harmonic shifts, rhythmic motives, and word painting (imitating the plucking of harp strings). The theme is tossed between the voices so that each part takes a turn singing the melody, or a portion thereof. Beginning with a slow introduction, the piece quickly takes off, running until the climactic ending.
