Welcome Table: A Mass of Spirituals was originally published by GIA in 2012. This new concert edition expands the reach of this important work. With additional music and text as well as full orchestration, this version is not intended for liturgical use, but only for performance outside the celebration of the Roman Catholic Mass. _x000D_

The Mass setting was conceived as a liturgical setting of the text from The Roman Missal to facilitate the sung prayer of the people, using the melodies and meanings of the Negro Spiritual. This re-envisioned concert version allows the music to more easily transition to the concert stage. A mezzo-soprano soloist sings the parts for the cantor. A bass-baritone soloist sings the parts that would normally be sung by a priest in the liturgy. The lector’s parts are spoken by a narrator and there are still many opportunities for assembly participation. _x000D_
