Mystic Chant

Rising out of a misty, impressionistic sound environment, the chant-like melody of this very original work is first stated in flutes and trumpets. As the piece progresses, the slow-tempo opening statement is suddenly interrupted by an energetic, percussion-driven variation of the principal theme, like a stab of sunlight burning through the fog. In this his first band work in the GMM catalog, composer Vargas has written a fascinating composition that is perfect for concert or contest.
